Bharat Mata Temple is one of the most renowned Varanasi attractions. It was built in the year 1936 by Babu Shiv Prasad Gupt, a Gandhian admirer. It is located within the campus of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth. The holy place is devoted to Mother India.

Tulsi Manas Mandir, Next to the Durga temple is this modern marble sikhara-style temple. Built in 1964, the walls of the temple are engraved with verses and scenes from the Ram Charit Manas, the Hindi version of the Ramayana. Its medieval author, Tulsi Das, lived here while writing it and died in 1623.
The temple has a rectangular tank of water called the Durga Kund (“Kund” meaning a pond or pool.) The temple has multi-tiered spires and is stained red with ochre, representing the red colour of Durga. The Kund was initially connected directly to the river thus the water was automatically replenished.
